Criminal Justice Organization Among the criminal justice organizations, there are numerous criminal justice professional associations that assist law enforcement with policies, standards, analysis, and training and education. The Department of Homeland Security has a mission to secure the nation from any threat it may face (â€Å"Homeland Security†, n.d.). The Department of Homeland Security duties are wide-ranging and their goal is to keep America safe. The Structure of the Department of Homeland Security The organizational structure of the Department of Homeland Security consists of over 240,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector†¦show more content†¦In the Department of Homeland Security, all information is only given on a need to know basis. The open system leaves the door open for better communication. The open system focuses on the organization and the external possibilities while the closed focuses on internal possibilities when problems occur. The open system is influenced by the environment, which also causes weaknesses in the structure since every day there is change. Environmental changes cause organizational changes. The close system in an organization shows organized structure and order, however, lack structural mobility (â€Å"Open Versus Closed Systems,† n.d.). The recommended changes to improve the structure of the Department of Homeland Security would be to be part open system and closed system. The Department of Homeland Security can make certain departments of the organization closed to keep information internal and open certain departments have better communication. Manager Versus Leadership Although the terms â€Å"management† and â€Å"leadership† are often confused as in meaning the same there is a distinction between the words. The distinction between the words is that people manage things and lead people (Collins, 2017).
